Dr. José Carlos Tatmatsu-Rocha is an Adjunct Professor at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) in Brazi. He has a Master’s degree in Biophysics and a Ph.D. in Physiotherapy from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), which included a research internship at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospita. His primary research interests lie in phototherapy and photodynamic application. 

Dr. Tatmatsu-Rocha earned his Master’s degree in Biophysics from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFP). He then pursued a Ph.D. in Physiotherapy at UFSCar, during which he completed a sandwich internship at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, enhancing his expertise in advanced therapeutic techniqus. 

Since July 2010, Dr. Tatmatsu-Rocha has been serving as an Adjunct Professor at UFC, contributing significantly to the Physical Therapy Departmn. Prior to this, from March 2006 to July 2010, he was affiliated with the Federal University of Piu. He is also a Collaborating Advisor for the Graduate Program in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Brasília (UB). 

Research Interests🔬

Dr. Tatmatsu-Rocha’s research focuses on phototherapy and photodynamic therapy, exploring their applications in tissue repair and the modulation of metabolic process. He has investigated the effects of light-emitting diodes on carbohydrate metabolism and the role of photobiomodulation in mitochondrial dynamics and collagen production, particularly concerning diabetic wound heaing. 

Throughout his career, Dr. Tatmatsu-Rocha has secured several research grants, including funding from the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico for his work on telerehabilitation in stroke patients within the public health ssem. He also received support from the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior for studying the modulation of carbohydrate metabolism by light-emitting diodes, and from the Fundação Cearense de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico for research on phototherapy’s effects on inflammatory markers and oxidative stress in diabetic mels.

“Hip arthroplasty: Effective rehabilitation protocols” (2021) in Research, Society and Developent. This article discusses effective rehabilitation protocols following hip arthrolasty. 

“Cost Analysis of a Home-Based Virtual Reality Rehabilitation to Improve Upper Limb Function in Stroke Survivors” (2020) in Global Journal of Health Scince. This study provides a cost analysis of home-based virtual reality rehabilitation for stroke surivors. 

“Can oxidative stress markers help define stroke prognosis?” (2019) in Biointerface Research in Applied Chemitry. This research investigates the potential of oxidative stress markers in determining stroke pronosis. 

Conclusion

In my opinion, Dr. José Carlos Tatmatsu-Rocha is highly suitable for the Best Researcher Award. His innovative research in phototherapy and rehabilitation, his consistent funding, and his growing body of high-quality publications are testaments to his excellence. While there is room to deepen cross-disciplinary collaborations and international reach, his impactful contributions to healthcare make him an excellent candidate for this award.
