Dr. Kaba’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Addis Ababa University (1984-1987. He furthered his studies with a Master’s in Social Anthropology from the same institution (1991-1993. Pursuing his interest in epidemiology, he earned his Ph.D. from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, University of Basel, Switzerland (2008-2011. 

Experience

Starting as a Graduate Assistant at Jimma University in 1988, Dr. Kaba advanced through various roles, including teaching, research, and program coordinatin. In 2001, he joined UNICEF Ethiopia as a Program Specialist, where he played a pivotal role in shaping HIV and AIDS programs, especially for adolescents and youh Since 2013, he has been serving as an Associate Professor at Addis Ababa University, focusing on behavioral healh. 

Research Interests

Dr. Kaba’s research encompasses maternal and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and cervical cane. He is particularly interested in the socio-cultural determinants of health, aiming to bridge the gap between social sciences and public health to develop effective interventins.

Awards🏆

Throughout his career, Dr. Mirgissa Kaba has received several accolades in recognition of his contributions to public health and academia. He was awarded a Certificate of Recognition for his outstanding contribution to the 13th World Congress of Public Health in Ethiopia (2012), highlighting his efforts in shaping public health policies and programs. In 2011, he received a Gold Medal and Certificate for his active participation in organizing ICASA 16 in Addis Ababa, a major international conference on HIV/AIDS and STIs in Africa. More recently, in 2024, Dr. Kaba was honored with an Award for Exceptional Dedication and Support to the Oromia Physicians Association, acknowledging his significant role in advancing healthcare initiatives and supporting the professional growth of physicians in the region.
