Mrs. Nazmunnahar Nazmunnahar | Environmental Science | Research Excellence Award

PhD Candidate | The University of Manchester | United Kingdom

Mrs. Nazmunnahar Nazmunnahar, in collaboration with Aman Ul Azam Khan, Mehedi Hasan Roni, Aurghya Kumar Saha, Zarin Tasnim Bristy, Abdul Baqui, and Abdul Md Mazid, co-authored a significant study on sustainable smart textile development using e-waste materials. The research focuses on fabricating twelve types of conductive threads by twisting copper filaments with cotton and polyester, followed by coating with carbon paste enriched with sea salt, sourced from recycled dry cell batteries. The developed threads exhibited exceptionally low electrical resistance, with the best-performing variant achieving 0.0164 Ω/cm. Comparative analysis revealed performance equal to or better than commercial conductive threads. The threads maintained stability under bending, twisting, and wash cycles, proving their suitability for wearable electronics, flexible circuits, and eco-friendly textile innovations.

Mr. Gabriel Bento | Materials Science | Research Excellence Award

Doctaral Student in Science and Technology of Materials and Chemical | The University of Federal University of Sergipe | Brazil

Mr. Gabriel Soares Bento and collaborating authors investigate a sustainable mechanochemical route for synthesizing layered double hydroxides through a dry-milling technique. This innovative approach avoids solvent use, minimizes waste generation, and eliminates post-synthesis treatments such as washing and calcination. The study focuses on Zn-incorporated hydrotalcite-like materials, which were thoroughly characterized using XRD, FT-IR, thermal analysis, and adsorption techniques. These materials were evaluated as photocatalysts for the degradation of paracetamol, a common pharmaceutical pollutant in water systems. Findings confirm that the dry-milling method successfully produces functional layered materials with improved catalytic efficiency. The research demonstrates the environmental and technological advantages of green synthesis methods, offering promising applications in pollution control, advanced oxidation processes, and sustainable material engineering for future environmental solutions.
