Mr. Florentios Economou is currently pursuing a PhD in Environmental Sciences at the Open University of Cyprus, starting in January 2023. He holds an MSc in Environmental Systems Analysis from Wageningen University & Research (2019-2022), where he achieved a GPA of 7.55. Prior to that, he completed a BSc in Agriculture Sciences, Food Science, and Biotechnology at Cyprus University of Technology (2014-2018), with a GPA of 8.565. His academic journey began at Paralimni Lyceum in Cyprus, where he graduated high school with a GPA of 18.8/20. π±π

Mr. Florentios has been the Quality Control Manager at SEDIGEP LTD since November 2020, ensuring BRC and IFS quality standards, health and safety guidelines, and legal obligations are met. π Previously, he worked at Malta’s Plant Protection Directorate in 2018, where he gained experience in tissue culture, soil, and pathology labs. π± In 2017, he participated in the Erasmus+ program at Walberton Nursery in the UK, further expanding his expertise in plant sciences. πΏ Additionally, in 2016, he served as an External Evaluation Committee member for the Biological Horticultural Crops program, contributing to the accreditation process. π

Mr. Florentios Economou’s BSc thesis delved into the quantitative and qualitative characterization of indigenous pomegranate varieties in Cyprus. For his MSc, he conducted a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment and Water Footprint analysis of potato production in Famagusta. His ongoing PhD research focuses on developing a common methodology for quantifying food loss in primary production. Florentios has published three notable papers in 2023, addressing topics such as the environmental impact of potato production and tools for monitoring the transition to a circular economy.
