Dr. Roghayeh Jahdi | Natural hazards | Best Researcher Award
Associate Professor | University of Mohaghegh Ardabi | Iran
Associate Professor Roghayeh Jahdi is a distinguished expert in forest science and wildfire management based at the University of Mohaghegh Ardabili in Ardabil, Iran. Since 2018, she has served as Associate Professor and also acts as a Wildfire Management Consultant for Iran’s Natural Resources and Watershed Management Organization. With post‑doctoral experience at Italy’s National Research Council (CNR-IBE) and active roles in wildfire risk committees and GFMC liaison, she brings global insight to wildfire ecology and risk mitigation.
Professional Profile
Education
Dr. Jahdi earned her Ph.D. in Forestry and Forest Economics from the University of Tehran (2011–2015) with a dissertation on fire behavior simulation in Golestan National Park. Prior to that, she completed an M.S. in Forestry & Forest Economics (2006–2008), studying urban green space change, and a B.Sc. in Natural Resources Engineering – Forestry (2002–2006) at Gorgan University. She also completed a Ph.D. internship at the University of Sassari (Italy) focused on environmental resource modeling.
Experience
Since 2018, Dr. Jahdi has held the position of Associate Professor at the University of Mohaghegh Ardabili and provides wildfire management consultancy to Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture. She has coordinated over 20 research projects, contributed to national wildfire strategy, and trained environmental professionals through the Department of Environment and GFMC initiatives. Her multifaceted roles blend research, policy development, and capacity building.
Research Interests
Dr. Jahdi focuses on wildfire ecology and risk, fire spread modeling, environmental remote sensing, and landscape change modeling. She develops fuel models, simulates fire behavior using algorithms like FARSITE and MTT, and assesses forest health dynamics driven by climate and vegetation change. Her work spans multiple ecosystems and contributes to risk-informed land management practices.
Awards
She has received several accolades including Best Researcher in Agriculture and Natural Resources at her university in January 2024, as well as Best Oral Paper Presentation awards in November 2023 at both national and international conferences in Iran and New Delhi. Her early academic excellence is also marked by Ph.D. and poster awards during her doctoral studies and internship in Italy.
