🎓 Prof. Dr. Jack Cunningham has had a diverse educational journey and career spanning several prestigious institutions. He began as a Teacher of Religious Education and History at Cardinal Manning Catholic High School in London and later at All Saints’ Catholic High School in Kirkby, Liverpool. His career progressed to Head of History at St Patrick’s & St Brigid’s College in Derry, Ireland. Transitioning into academia, he pursued a full-time Ph.D. at the University of Ulster as a T. K. Daniel’s Scholar. Currently, he serves as Associate Prof. of Ecclesiastical History and Programme Leader for Theology at Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln. 📚

Prof. Dr. Jack Cunningham MA explored “The Power of the Prince,” focusing on Archbishop James Ussher’s influential views on episcopacy in 17th century Britain and Ireland. His dissertation highlighted Ussher’s pivotal role in shaping theological debates of the era 📜🕊️. For his PhD, Cunningham delved into “The Levitical Candle,” conducting a comparative study of the theological perspectives of two prominent Irish ecclesiastics, Bishops James Ussher and John Bramhall. This research illuminated their divergent yet impactful theological stances during a transformative period in religious history 🕯️⛪. Cunningham’s work contributes significantly to understanding the complex religious discourses of early modern Europe.

CURRENT ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 🌟

Prof. Dr. Jack Cunningham has been instrumental in academia, leading the design and delivery of BA and MA programmes from 2014 to 2019. His teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including supervision of MA dissertations and PhD students. As the REF Unit of Assessment lead for Theology, he ensures output expectations are met and supports quality reviews. Dr. Cunningham’s roles extend to governance as a University Senate member and personal tutor since 2001. His commitment includes various committees like BGU’s Research and Knowledge Exchange Committee, alongside directing the International Robert Grosseteste Study Centre and leading projects like the Ordered Human Project.
